a spider crocheted an elaborate pattern on a maple tree, & one of its silver threads– still attached to a branch – unraveled in autumn as leaves whispered urgently to each other, it’s time to go–assuring one another they would meet again on the ground but a reticent leaf, (so scarlet & reluctant) became enamored with the sparkly silver thread still hanging from the branch & tightly clutched it, until it began swaying in the breeze, swinging & smiling as happily as a child playing in a park & not wanting to leave just yet
